This unique jam at Mekong Bistro has gotten off to a great start! The "soul-jazz" genre is a great common ground for musicians from diverse backgrounds to play together, yet there's been no similar jam in Portland, at least in recent decades. As hoped for, we've gotten a steady diet of youngsters sitting in along with a smattering of oldsters. That is how young musicians learn their craft; no amount of "book learning" can substitute for actual bandstand experience, and a jam like this is the perfect low-pressure setting for gaining that seasoning.
