I’ve had the idea of a soul-jazz jam night for some time. Portland always has had great blues and jazz jams, but never one focusing on my favorite genre. I’m talking about the music of Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Horace Silver, Stanley Turrentine, Eddie Harris, et al. Come down on Wednesday evenings to play or just to listen or to dance. It’ll be a fun scene; the Rose Room Bar and Grill is a beautiful new venue featuring a big stage, great sound system, spacious dance floor, delicious food & drink, plenty of parking, etc. This week the house band will be me plus Jay "Bird"Koder, guitar; and Micah Kassell, drums.
