Most Thursdays, you'll find the Mel Brown B-3 Organ Group performing at Jimmy Mak's in Portland. But on this Thursday the guys will be holding the Salem release event for their two brand new CDs, which celebrate the 16th anniversary of that Jimmy Mak's gig! (If you haven't been to Christos before, it features an intimate jazz lounge and an adjoining Italian restaurant featuring delicious pizza, pasta, etc!)
The band includes: Mel Brown, drums; "King Louie" Pain, organ; Renato Caranto, saxophone; and Dan Balmer, guitar. This group was dubbed "Jimmy Mak's signature band" by The Oregonian. When George Benson heard the group, he said, "If this band played in New York City, they'd be a sensation!" The Oregonian's Kyle O'Brien described the band's unique style as, "the sound of spontaneity." Come out to Christos this Thursday evening and hear what the excitement is all about!
