Philadelphia soul music is the Rodney Dangerfield of the genre: it doesn't get no respect! At least not in comparison to Motown, Memphis, etc. But the Portland Soul All-Stars intend to remind our audience of some of the great music that came out of Philly back in the day (the '70s in particular). Groups like the Spinners, the Stylistics, the Delphonics, the Manhattans, the O'Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes--and hits like "I'll Be Around," "Mighty Love," "Betcha By Golly Wow," "For the Love Of Money," "Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time," "Kiss & Say Goodbye," "Ooh Child," "The Theme From Soul Train": we'll play it all.
The line-up this time will include soul singers extraordinaire Sean Holmes & Tracey Harris, and instrumentalists Janice Scroggins, piano; myself, B-3; Edwin Coleman III, drums; Mike Doolin, guitar, and Renato Caranto, sax. Come down to Jimmy Mak's and party with us!
