Each of the songs on this CD (honored by Downbeat as one of the "Best Albums Of 2019") were inspired by and named after an important person in the life of the composer. In this case, that person was saxophonist Renato Caranto's late boss, legendary country artist Merle Haggard. (Renato reports that Merle was a closet jazz fan who had loved this tune when Renato played it at a sound check.)
