Louis Pain

The Paul deLay Band

Louis toured and recorded six CDs with the late great singer/songwriter/harmonica player Paul deLay over nearly ten years--from February 1990 thru December 2002--with a three-year hiatus in the middle of that run while Paul was incarcerated on drug charges.  The two pre-incarceration CDs--"The Other One" and "Paulzilla"--represented a new direction for the band: its first recordings featuring primarily original material.

Post-prison, the band--with an exciting new rhythm section--released three new recordings (plus a compilation) on a national label, Evidence.  Those recordings received rave reviews in the top national blues publications for their ground-breaking approach to the blues.

An exciting and unexpected development occurred in 2007, when Louis and deLay Band guitarist Peter Dammann, aided by Norwegian blues fan & festival manager Jostein Forsberg, uncovered a 1997 live performance of the Evidence-era band at its peak.  That recording has now been mastered and released on the prestigious Little Village Foundation label and titled, "Live at Notodden."

For an extended photo essay about Louis' years with Paul and the band, see his blog entry, "Remembering Paul deLay."
